One of the real differences a person notices when they change their eating habits, is the way their food cravings diminish, their appetite reduces and their taste-buds change, as normal eating is resumed.
And most people have eaten normally before, at some point in their life, which means at a cellular level the body knows exactly what to do and ultimately what it wants. Maybe you’ve been fighting it! If you’re someone who came from an environment where you always overate, and used food for comfort, then it is something that can be addressed as well.
What’s The Best Approach To Take
When people start a New Eating Plan they invariably look for the tricks and treats, by wondering what you can get-away-with! And I can remember doing this too, which was why I stopped believing in diets, even before I started training in the change techniques I use here.
But ultimately a decision has to be made … What do YOU really want, a great shape or regular out-of-control eating patterns ad-infinitum.
A mindset is fast developing where people are kidding themselves about their health, and maybe you follow one of more of these 21st Century philosophies yourself:
- You think you’re healthy if you go to the gym, 3 times a week
- You think you can eat more of the high-fat, sugar, salt foods if you take regular exercise
- You think you’ll lose your love of food, if you whip your taste buds into shape
- You think you’re healthy if you stop eating meat
There are so many mythologies around food; what with the manufacturers, the ambivalence of food labeling, the power of the hypermarkets. In addition we have to configure what is actually healthy these days, as well as determining the real quality of our fruit, vegetables, herbs, proteins, dairy and wheat products. It’s become quite scary in parts, as we all battle our way through the mountains of mis-information that bounces the market place.
It used to be simple didn’t it?
Who To Belief
If you’ve ever heard a foodie referring to themselves as a food addict , I know I’ve used it on many an occasion! But it’s such a lame throw-away funny line that allows us to let ourselves off-the-hook.
And likewise you’ve probably taken that all too familiar roller-coaster ride collectively known as yo-yo dieting, which may well have ended in overall disappointment with it and yourself, because it didn’t work out as you dreamed it would. If you’re reading this you probably know this one only too well.
And it’s how I got started on the journey of learning so many wonderful tools, techniques and information, for change, that I’ve found over the last 9-years, and has since turned into a vocation.
If there’s one clear difference between the overwhelming desire for food and that same feeling around other substances we may have decided to quit, give up, stomp out, and eradicate from existence, it’s an obvious one – have you guessed what it is yet? 🙂
There’s an inherent need for food so we can live, unlike other addictive substances, such as cigarettes, drugs, gambling and any other compulsion you care to mention. Therefore over-indulging with food requires a different approach, and is by nature more complex because we gotta eat don’t we?
But maybe we’ve been barking up the wrong tree 🙂 … perhaps its not the foods we need to address but the monkey-on-the-back of whatever it is that leads you to eat in such a deranged manner, at times.
Junk Food Addiction
Think about it, is it mere coincidence that in western countries alongside an increased obesity rate there is a juxtaposed escalation of refined food production that is off-the-scale jam-packed with empty-calories, preservatives, taste enhancers, and more as the non-foods seem determined to set us up for chomping.
Apologies for being in your face with that one, but we’ve all done it, haven’t we?
What Is A Balanced Diet
The problem is we’re so used to being fed this diet and that celebrity weight-loss fix that our head spins in a whirl of not knowing who or what to trust.
Here’s Some Quick Advice:
You can only really believe your own experience, because that’s the only evidence you have, as to whether x, y, or z has worked for you.
If nothing really has, and why would you be reading this if you’re as toned and trim as you’d like to be, it’s okay, but one of the very first things to start doing is getting real with yourself …
And STOP Making Excuses!
Of course it’s easier said than done, but the buck stops with you and if you’re not happy with any part of you there is no time like – well – NOW!
Here’s The Worst News Of All
Diets generally don’t work, for the reasons already mentioned, and if they’ve not worked for you in the past, they’re unlikely to do so in the future! Harsh but true!
You can stop looking in all the wrong place and start getting down to the actual work you need to do in order to come round to the idea of making some real difference for yourself, and take back the reigns. It’s much easier than you may think, but you need to FOCUS!
That’s the starting point and this is how to do it …
Stop buying diet products and read the labels, as you may be shocked by what they contain and just how confused they are.
We’re being had and it’s time to get back to normal eating and I realize some of you may never have experienced such a thing, I grew up in the fifties and sixties, with a mum who produced a home-cooked meal every day, but not everyone has experienced that especially since the explosion of Fast Food came onto the market, and they’ll be folks who’ve inherited all sorts of weird ideas about food.
But it’s Really Got To Stop!
It’s time to get back into that wonderful kitchen, retrain yourself to buy, cook and eat regularly, properly, and if you’re in a family setting, then it’s time to get round the kitchen table, at least once a day. Or you could pay someone else to cook for you, because your body really needs certain nutrients to keep you in optimum health, and it’s your job to ensure that happens.
If you have been over-indulging in ways of eating that are not keeping you well, then I hope you’re ready to do something about it.
Just remember it’s all things in moderation, and once your body, system, energy, vitality and general good health have returned to balance, you won’t go far wrong in living by it.
In the meanwhile, please stop listening to all the advice out there, yes, even this if it’s not for you, and start listening to your body, because it and you really do know best about what is right and what works for you.
It is food for thought indeed!
