The first thing people think about weight gain is that it comes from over-eating, but what I often hear from people is that they don’t really overeat, at least not in proportion to the amount of weight they’ve gained. So if you’re open to the idea what else could be going on instead?
According to META-Medicine there are (two that we know of there may be more) ways that weight gets stored in the body, and they are very different biological processes.
Two Kinds Of Weight Gain
The first is through water retention and loss, the second is through fat loss and gain. The reason they’re written this way is due to how this actually happens in relation to the Two Phases Of Disease seen here on my other site ABC Simple As.
And here’s the model in relation to weight:
The Two Phases Of Disease
META-Medicine recognizes there are two-phases-of-disease and this is broken up into 9-stages, where stages 2-3 are Phase 1 and 4-8 are Phase 2:
A conflict shock occurs (UDIN) see below for the full definition.
The body goes into stress. When the conflict relates to feeling isolated and abandoned with a perceived threat to survival, water collects and the body swells at this stage. Examples are things like having to do everything yourself, no-one helps me, being alone.
The appetite increases and you may find yourself reaching for high fat, sweet and carbohydrate foods in order to get a quick energy fix.
When the conflict relates to feelings of not being good enough and low self-worth, the adipose fat layer thins and weight loss is common. A good example of this is with a relationship break-up and women often say that losing a partner is the best diet they know. There will be a loss of appetite with sporadic eating patterns.
The Reversal Point is when something occurs to alleviate the original shock and the mind/body system feels relief as the person starts to feel better about what happened.
With water conflicts, it might be because you’ve been accepted into the fold or found you don’t have to do everything yourself.
For fat conflicts, a good example is when you meet a new partner, and it’s common enough when people marry that they put weight on afterwards, because maybe there’s a sense of relief, yet there’s still something unresolved from the past (in relation to whatever put them into stress in the first place, i.e. a previous relationship break-up).
This is when a person gains more water, and if already have water from Stage 3 more will collect and more weight goes on. Where fat loss occurred earlier this now starts to increase and the water that collects at this stage adds to weight gain.
There is very little in the way of a Healing Crisis (HC) with weight issues, but if there are other physical symptoms connected to an existing diagnosed disease then that may differ.
Now the water should start to diminish (and you’ll know because you’ll pee more – yes it’s that simple). But the fat related weight issue gains even more fat at this stage. And the water may stick around too (noticed through swelling). This stage is when people often decide on an eating plan because they’re more likely to want wholesome foods.
However, if the issues that kick-started the process have not been resolved and especially if they’ve been going round and round in a chronic cycle that you can relate to through this biological model, then the original conflicts need addressing and that’s where wonderful tools like EFT, Matrix Reimprinting, the META-Healing Process and NES Health come in to play.
Of course these therapeutic interventions can be applied at any stage throughout the process, to speed things up, but it’s often only having gone through these patterns over and over again (where eating plans haven’t brought someone the results they’ve wanted in the long-term) that they turn to something different and get on board to make the overdue changes that work far quicker than some other methods and make eating a healthier regime so much easier.
Return to norm.
Weight Gain As A Biological Process
That’s how weight gain works and of course there can be other things at play, such as a hormone imbalance, which we can get checked out. If you have issues with the adrenals or a diabetic diagnosis, or other disease diagnosis these are also taken into consideration as part of the process.
This also helps to point out how what you eat doesn’t always correlate to the weight gain, and this model makes it clearer. Although you may have one of other of these process models at play, you can also have both. There is a palm test you can take:
- Go to the fleshy part of the hand (not directly under the little finger and not just above the wrist but right in the middle)
- Now press with the thumb of the other hand
- Remove your thumb and if the thumb print stays you have the water conflict at play
- If not you don’t
