David Wolfe’s book arrived from Amazon and have been digging into it since last week. The book is fascinating and it’s the first of his I’ve read, although he’s written quite a range.
His advice is simple, as he recommends you start by adding to your existing eating instead of the cut-out and replace foods for new ones. In time its expected that some of the desire for existing foods will diminish. Although not original its a great piece of advice, that is far less daunting and much easier to achieve, which makes it an achievable starting point for pretty much anyone.
The book runs through a list of recommended Superfoods, as you might guess, and lists all the benefits of each in turn, together with a history of origins, the growing habits, location, options to grow your own and what to look for when purchasing the items.

I’ll list them in the order they’re shown in the book:
- Goji berries
- Cacao (chocolate to you and me)
- Bee products (honey, bee pollen, propolis, and royal jelly)
- Marine phytoplankton
- Aloe vera
- Coconuts and coconut products
Alternative Eating To Restore Health
I’m really digging into alternative eating systems for seriously ill clients, so I can hand-on-heart make recommendations, if its helpful. So with this book I didn’t know what to expect but I’m delighted with it for two reasons:
- David Wolfe is really passionate about this stuff and it spills onto every page
- The book appeals to the would-be kitchen-gardener (in me) as he explains not only the history of each superfood, but also how you can reproduce it at home. I recently started the process of having my garden redesigned by Jo a landscape architect who just happens to offer an Edible Garden Design service so there’s a lovely fit here
Finding Better Eating Habits
In forthcoming posts I hope to feature some of the Superfoods as listed, with a view to digging into David’s recommendations alongside other information that is readily available these days. I think its possible to change the taste-buds at a slower more natural gait and I’m ready to absorb any information that corresponds to this thinking. Does it have to be a radical change, I don’t think so, but am open to the learning,
There are schools of thought that point solely to a Raw Food eating system, but I’m not sure (at this juncture that I fully understand what that comprises) as I’m beginning to realise it isn’t all raw vegetables and fruit.
Another aspect that the superfoods book and David Wolfe talks of are dietary supplements and that’s another area that requires careful examination. I heard a great definition for Dietary Supplements recently and it went like this:
- Supplements are meant to supplement your diet not replace it!
And that’s a very good way to think of it. I’m imagining that this approach would be especially helpful to those of us who have not been eating the most natural of foods yet returning a sense of balance to the physiology is probably a pre-requisite
This may well prevent the body from a sense of overwhelm in preparation to fully restore a natural and healthy inner world and outer perspective.
