A hospital sister, in her early forties, came to me for a number of reasons; mostly to benefit her own health, but she was also concerned that she might be passing her own irregular eating habits onto her 12-yr old daughter.
Weight loss is hard
But having tried numerous diets, Denise wound up on a well-known one where food is replaced by pre-packaged drinks and soups and she’d already tolerated it for over 10-years.
She had lost 6-stone in weight with the system and was very happy to achieve it, but once she stopped, over time she had become so disappointed in how the weight was creeping back on. When it reached 2-stone she decided to go back to it because she had at least lost weight with it.
But when it came to it she couldn’t face going through with the restricted eating, and having found food again, it was tough to let go of it. So she looked around for a different solution and found me.
Shedding weight another way
We had a free consultation over Skype, where we established what had been going on for her. At the end of our chat she wanted to finally change this once and for all and she decided to hire me.
We addressed what drove her food cravings, and her portion sizes. But what really astonished her was how much quicker it was than anything she’d used before. And in no time her relationship with food had entirely changed.
Instead of trudging through, weeks, months and years of food deprivation she found she spent far less time dreaming about food, yet her love of food was still there when she needed to eat.
A healthy eating regime
Then she got herself onto a healthy eating regime. And because she had dealt with the drivers behind the unhelpful eating, she no longer had disruptive eating patterns that had forced her into sporadic eating before, that also affected her mood and her body image.
She was really happy about how she felt in herself and made a comment, as many people do, about just how light she felt in her head, feeling less stressed, more relaxed and less likely to lose her cool for no good reason.
The results
Over the following months she steadily got her weight back to where it had been before she started to put it back on a second time. And her weight loss can now continue until she reaches her ideal weight, which for her is somewhere in the region of 10-10½ stone, where before she felt she had to make do and settle for a smaller goal than she really wanted, because she didn’t think it was possible.
The icing-on-the-cake, was in how she could share a different way of being around food with her daughter. Because once Denise’s struggle with food stopped it no longer posed the same issues for either of them.
