There is now clear scientific evidence showing how diets haven’t worked for most people, where a balanced diet will win over and over.
The research shows a 25:75 ratio where only a quarter of people respond to what we might call the accepted routes of diet plans / philosophy’s, well you know we’re talking about all the usual suspects, that attract people wanting to lose weight.
Losing Weight And Keeping It Off
There is increasing evidence to say that most people are worse off than they were before they started around 2-5 years down the road (from reaching target) whereas the giant weight-loss companies generally measure their success-rate 12-mths down the line.
Yo-Yo Dieters
If you’ve ever heard a foodie referring to themselves as a food addict (and that would be me lol) you’ve probably been listening to someone who’s taken a roller-coaster ride of yo-yo dieting which has ended in overall disappointment in the diet but even more with themselves, because that’s what can and does happen, and if you’re reading this you probably know only too well what I’m talking about.
This is how I got involved with learning so many wonderful tools and techniques and has turned into a vocation, but if there’s one clear difference between the overwhelming desire for food and that same feeling around other substances we may have decided to quit, give up, stomp out, and eradicate from existence, it’s an obvious thing – have you guessed what it is yet? 🙂
Food Addiction
There’s an inherent need for food so we can live, unlike other addictions, such as cigarettes, drugs, gambling and any other compulsion you care to mention. Therefore over-indulging with food requires a different approach, and is by nature more complex. We gotta eat don’t we?
But maybe we’ve been barking up the wrong tree 🙂 … perhaps its not the foods we need to address but the thing that leads us to eat in such a deranged manner.
Junk Food Addiction
Think about it, is it mere coincidence that in western countries alongside an increased obesity rate there is a juxtaposed escalation of refined food production that is off-the-scale jam-packed with empty-calories as these non-foods seem designed solely for gourging. Apologies for being in your face with that one, but it has to be said and we’ve all done it, haven’t we?
What Is A Balanced Diet
The problem is we’re so used to being fed this diet and that celebrity weight-loss fix that our head’s in a spin and we just don’t know who to believe. Here’s some quick advice, you can only really believe your own experience, because that’s the only evidence you have, as to whether x, y, or z has worked for you.
If nothing really has, and why would you be reading this if you’re as toned and trim as you;d like to be, and that’s okay, but one of the very first things to start getting real with yourself is to stop making excuses. It’s easier said than done, I know, but the buck stops with you and if you’re not happy with any part of you there is no time like the present!
Here’s The Worst News Of All
Diets generally don’t work! As we said at the beginning, if they’ve not worked for you in the past, they are unlikely to do so in the future, so stop looking in the wrong place and start getting down the actual work that needs to be done, it’s much easier than you may think. Focus!
That’s the starting point and this is how you do it and we can start slow and gentle, as I’m a strong believer in slow and steady wins the race. Are you sitting down, are you ready for this, okay here it comes:
Stop buying dieting food and read your labels you may just be shocked by what they reveal.
We’re being had and it’s time to get back to normal eating and I realize some of you may never have experienced such a thing, I’m an oldie and grew up with a mum who produced a home-cooked meal every day, but not everyone has experienced that especially since the Dieting Boom started, and they’ll be folks who’ve inherited all sorts of weird ideas about food. But again I’ve got to say:
It’s got to stop!
It’s time to don your pinny (apron if you know) and get back into that wonderful kitchen and retrain yourself to buy, cook and eat regularly and properly.
If that’s what you have been doing, then maybe you need to do less of it, if you’re a bit overly attached to the bread-maker lets say, I love the saying all things in moderation, and I really don’t think, that once a person is back in balance, they can go far wrong in living by it.
But it’s time to stop listening to all the advice out there, even this if it’s not for you, and start listening to your body, because it and you really does know best what is right and what works for you.
It is food for thought indeed!
I wonder if you’re ready to get back to a balanced diet and if so you may want to address some outdated food issues, cravings, comfort eating patterns or excessive over-indulgence?
