Right off the bat, there’s one thing you need to know, which is that I’m all about the science. Although I’m open to other views, when it comes to testing what works in a therapeutic setting, I’m team science all-the-way!
I’m going to tell you a little of what brought me to the work I love doing today, and as you read down the page I hope you’ll agree, that over the decades I’ve earned my stripes. I’ve been there, done that, and definitely got the t-shirt.
I work mostly with professional women of 40+ aiming to sort out their eating, weight, and feelings about body image, that have been going on for the longest time, sometimes decades.
There’s a strong link between being overweight, stress, and health issues, and if you’re acquiring more symptoms as you age then you’ll want to look at including those issues during sessions, in order to get-off-the-hamster-wheel of sporadic dieting and exercise regimes.

Weight loss can be complex
Because weight loss can be quite complex, especially when you’ve struggled with it for the longest time, I know there will be times when you’ve blamed yourself. That has to stop!
Instead, think of it like this; there is a multi-billion-dollar-industry that ties people into the myths of diet and exercise as the-be-all-and-end-all.
Admittedly those approaches work for some people, but they don’t work for everyone, and when dieting hasn’t worked for you, the last thing you need is to start another one.
Because when diets fail you, it means you’re barking up the wrong tree, looking for solutions in all the wrong places, and hoping that repeating your actions with another eating plan will bring about a different outcome.
Why is nothing working?
You can hardly be blamed for not knowing who to listen to, or where to turn for your own solutions, you might be thinking that as you’re reading through this right now. But I absolutely welcome your scepticism, because it’s a great gauge for measuring your success, as you make very real progress moving back into renewed energy, vitality, good health, as you lose weight.
One clue as to why you might find dieting a real struggle is because you’ve missed a VITAL step that comes beforehand:

I hope this page offers up an insight or two, I’ve shared some personal stuff, in the hopes of you knowing that what’s happening to you is not your fault. I’ve been there, and I can successfully lead you through this complex maze.
Finally, before I start sharing my story, if you have any chronic health symptoms running alongside your weight-related issues, you need to deal with them at the same time.
You may not have thought of your weight as a health symptom, but it cannot be compartmentalised away from any other chronic symptoms you have coming and going.

I searched for the longest time, for answers to my own questions, regarding my low self-esteem, lack of self belief, a collection of unwanted habits, and not being comfortable in my own skin.
I stopped smoking in my 30’s (having taken it up very early). Next I undertook a well-known dieting plan, and having reached target within 6-mths, I next upped-sticks and left Manchester for Kent, where my nieces were growing up by the south-east coast.
I haven’t craved a cigarette since, but food took over and my weight continued to increase. After several more attempts, I became even heavier and realised that dieting was not MY answer.

Earlier in my life
Growing up in the Manchester suburbs in 1950’s was fairly uneventful, except I know in hindsight that my family was dysfunctional, despite their best intentions. And it’s far more common than I ever realised?
My father passed away when I was 13-yrs old and as anyone who’s lost a parent early on, it changes many things, in many ways.
This is what happened to me:
It was pivotal to everything that would come from this point onwards!
I experienced a biological and psychological shift that changed everything!
How life unfolded in this direction
- Worked for a decade as a Youth Trainer (and ran a training kitchen)
- I took the CGLI 706-1 and can put together a decent soup, sauce and stock
- I booked banqueting staff at Sacha’s Hotel in Manchester (while on the degree)
- At 40 I qualified as a BSc (Hons) Home Economist
My degree covered:
- Recipe development
- Packaging and labeling
- Chemistry, physics, biology
- Dietetics and nutrition
- From Autumn 2015 I’ll train as a naturopathic nutritionist
NB: Currently I’m unqualified in this area, but I have excellent resources included at the VIP Coaching level.
In 2004 I took an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) course with Richard Bandler (the co-creator of NLP) & Paul McKenna that unwittingly started the next very significant chapter.
It kick-started a deeper more meaningful foray into how we tick (a life-long interest) and the realisation that the subconscious mind is always listening, to whatever we program into it, and the language we use, especially in terms of self-talk.
Why am I spilling the beans?
