Spring is almost upon us, in fact the weather we’ve been having in the UK this last week or so would confirm it’s here, and as soon as the sun’s out everyone get’s busy. We recently had the half-term and that in itself can be a challenge having the kids at home full-time, that balance between keeping them occupied while holding onto your sanity lol! And poor eating habits can prevail.
It’s Time To Get Slim
But these are their salad days, as your children grow and blossom into wonderful adults who in time will take their place in the world following in your footsteps. So what are you teaching them in the kitchen?
What are they learning without any words passing your lips?
I’m working with a client at the moment, who talks about learning her eating habits at her mother’s knee (as it were) where she and all her siblings have grown-up with the same learning and each have a challenging relationship with food. Interesting eh?
Her Mother Was Constantly Dieting
The thing is that her mother tried to make it good when the children were around aged 4, 5 and 6 the mum took a dieting programme and she was one of those who found it worked for her. But the damage was done with her children BECAUSE children learn by absorbing their beliefs and behaviours through observation far more than what is being said.
The subconscious absorbs everything – like blotting paper – until we’re aged 7 or 8 (when the brain moves from Theta to the Delta state) and that’s when and where we learn all our beliefs about life, that’s it the cloth is cut.
Of course it’s reversible, but the more a belief is reinforced, it reaches a point where it’s so absorbed it becomes invisible and inherent. But if we want to reverse (or undo an unhelpful learning) it’s quicker to go to the subconscious directly, which is what the tools and techniques here at Kick The Dieting Habit allow gently and effectively.
So back to the cleint’s mum … she did everything she could to ban the children from biscuits, crisps and chocolate but the children had developed such a taste for it that no matter what the mum said they’d already learned to crave these non-food products.
Fast forward 30+ yrs and the client is seeking some way of addressing these patterns. But we worked together and in summary got rid of that, the frustrations and anger that had built up around both her parents (which filtered into her working relationships), and her motivation to exercise.
Her confidence grew, through the sessions, and her weight dropped gradually. Result! Because the triggers are gone, so the pattern is now one-way and no special dieting system was required. Of course she also learned to become super conscious of keeping her language clean (as it were) around her own daughter, and herself, because she became far more aware of the effect that language has and had had on her and the way in which she’d absorbed it all those years.
